Leadership Review

Leadership start with yourself. No matter where you are -- at home , on the job, driving on an expressway or flying through the air, you can put your leadership potential to work. The more anxious you are to be service to others, the more imaginative you become in discovering such opportunities. It is a combination of your inner abilities traits and those developed.

According to the five exemplary leadership qualities cited by Kouzes and Posner (2007) are the foundation stones for any successful leader. These qualities embraces model the way, inspired a shared vision, challenge the process, enables others to act, and encourage the heart.

For me with the help and empathy of a dedicated instructor Dr. Wolf Patti, the leadership course has proved to me to start where I am, face up the reality, be constructive, how the love of other people have motivate me, see things through, ready for opportunities, weigh consequences, put first things first, keep growing, bring out the best in others, and live up to expectations of others.

My only concern about leadership theory, according to Chris Hintz, Cisco System (as cited in Kouzes and Posner 2007, p.188) said "leaders are not afraid to take risks and step outside their comfort zones." Most of these risks that are taken by business leaders had end unfruitful. For example, Lehman Brothers, when they took risked to engage in the subprime mortgage lending landed them in bankrupcy. So, leaders before taking risks they need to have a second taugth. They should take risks when its possible outcomes are certain.

Conclusively, in the words of Howard Schultz, "we are hungry for humanity and authenticity. We want to be valued and respected and part of something larger than ourselves. In trying to achieve your leadership dreams, you have to live up to the expectation of others. It would be too much for human nature to be all these things all the time. But other people can and should expect of you a reasonable fulfillment of the qualifications of a good leader.

Leadership

Leadership is a process in which a leader attempts to influence his/her followers to establish and accomplish a goal or goals. Inorder for leaders to be successful in the accomplishment of desire goal, the leader exercises his/her power to influence others. That power is exercised in the primary stages by motivating followers to get the job done and in the later stages by rewarding or punishing those who do or not perform to the level of expectation. Leader is viewed as a continous process, with the accomplishment of a task becoming the beginning of a new goal. The right reward by the leader is of significant importance in order to continually motivate followers in the process.

Historically, the aristocratic thinker have agued that leadership depends on one's blue blood or gene: monarchy takes an extreme view of the same idea, and may prop up its assertions against the claims of mere aristocrats by invoking devine sanction. contrariwise, more democratically -inclined theorists have pointed to example of meritocratic leaders, such as the Napoleonic marshals profiting from from careers open to talent.

To crown it all, leadership has undergone changes to meet global dynamics. Leadership is going through transformation processes. As James Macgregor Burns (1978) introduce a normative element: an effective Burnsian leader will unite followers in a shared vision that will improve an organization and society at large. A leader who delivers true value, integrity, and trust.
